はじめての体験

 先日、玄関先に置いてある植木の剪定をしていたら、見知らぬ若い男性がやってきて、いきなり話かけられた。

　　💁「お宅の屋根の上の鉄板が剥がれかかってますよ」

（😾は？）

　　💁「早く修理したほうがいい」

（😾余計なお世話じゃっ）

　　😾「なんで屋根の上のことがわかるの？」

　　💁「いや、このへんで家の建築工事していて、たまたま見えたんですよ。」

嘘だとわかっているので突っ込みもせず、大きく息を吸って一気にまくしたてる。

　　😾「うちは知り合いの外装工事の会社と契約してて、年に何度かチェックが入るんですよ。なので、次回、その業者がきた時にそう言っておきます。ありがとう。」

すると男は「早く直したほうがいいですよ（チッ）」とかなんとかを繰り返し、あきらめて去っていった。

いまだにこういう手口、やってる輩がいるわけね。屋根の上なんて見えないから、信用しちゃって不安になる人だっているだろう。そこで「よかったらうちの会社で修理を請け負いますよ」ともっていき、相場より高い工事料金を請求する、という運びになるのだろう。大体において、本当に工事が必要かどうかさえ定かではないのに、だ。

しかし、こういうのは話にはきいていたが、自分が体験するとは思ってもみなかった。都市伝説に近いものだと思っていたのに、現実で遭遇するとは。はじめての体験。黙っていられず、知り合いにＬＩＮＥをしまくると、けっこう同じような経験をしている人たちがいた。シナリオはほぼ同じ。

「同じ手口とセリフで何年もやってて、それがいまだに通用すると思ってるなんて、なんて浅はかなの。情報もあふれてるし、注意喚起もあっという間に拡散される世の中だといういうのに」と、剪定の続きをしながら、ダメ出しをつぶやく私なのであった。

First time experience

I was pruning the plants on my front porch the other day when a strange young man came and suddenly spoke to me.

💁: Ah, excuse me, the steel plate on your roof is about to come off.

(😾What?)

💁: You should repair it as soon as possible.

(😾: Oh yeah? But THAT's none of your business.)

😾: How do you know what's on the roof?

💁: Well, your neighbor is building a house near here.  I am working on that site and I happened to see your roof.

Knowing it was a lie and not even going into it, I just took a big breath and blurted it out all at once.

😾: We have a contract with an exterior construction company and they check the house several times a year. I will tell them that something is wrong with the roof the next time they come to check. Thanks. "

The man then repeated, "You should fix it right away (gee)" or something like that, then gave up and left.

There are still scammers who use this kind of trick. People can't see what's on their roofs, so they might trust them and feel insecure. The scammers will then say, "If you want, we can do the repair work," and charge an above-market price. In most cases, it is not clear whether the work is necessary.

Although I had heard of these stories, I never thought I would experience one myself. I thought it was one of those urban legends. Since it was my first experience, I couldn't stop texting my friends about it. And I found that many of them had similar experiences. The scenario was almost identical.

"Why do they think their tricks still work after years of using the same tactics and lines?  We are in a world now where so much information is flying around and warnings spread at lightning speed. 

I muttered to myself and went back to my peaceful pruning.
