My first... Beehives!
The "First Time Series" that has
been posted here recently is not something I like to do. It's just that a
number of firsts have happened to me at the same time.
This time it is about the extermination of
a beehive.
Last week I was hanging out the laundry on
the balcony and casually turned around. I looked at the top of the wall, which
I usually don't pay attention to. Maybe I felt the presence (or the sound of
wings?) of something. In the corner of that wall I saw a beehive, the size of a
kindergartener's fist, just beginning to be built.
I immediately photographed this small beehive,
which the bees were diligently working on, searched the Internet for
information about beehives, and tried to find an exterminator who could come to
my house and exterminate it as soon as possible. Luckily, I found one and made an appointment
right away. The next day, the
exterminator arrived, and after just looking at the house from the outside, he
said, "Oh, there are three old beehives that are not in use" As you already know, these old ones were NOT the beehives
I was about to ask him to destroy.
Still in shock, I asked the exterminator to
work on the newest beehive on the balcony. Since it was still small and in an
easy-to-work-with location, the extermination itself was done quickly. However, we waited a while and caught some of
the returning bees. Then the exterminator checked all the exterior walls of the
house to make sure there were no other beehives. As you can imagine, he found three more beehives in addition to the three old beehives he had already found. Moreover, these three had been built
this year and were currently in full operation. Horrified, I managed to find
the voice to say, "...more exterminations, please". (The fee is per nest. I need to pay an additional cost. So what?)
A total of five beehives were exterminated,
and those that could not be removed were sprayed with an extermination spray to
prevent them from functioning as beehives. The defensive spray
was also applied to the places where the bees were likely to make beehives. I was tired, even though I did not do the
extermination work myself.
This was the story of my first beehive
extermination. The bees had built their beehives as much as they wanted, and I
really did not know what terrible things were going on. I vowed that from now on I would strictly check for the beehive while gardening and hanging out the laundry to dry. (FYI, it
was not a wasp beehive, but an ash wasp beehive. Well, whatever it was, it was
still dangerous🐝).
